Vol. 104 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel Prices in Portarlington.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that large numbers of householders in the Portarlington area are unable to secure a supply of turf or timber at the controlled prices, and if he will request Bord na Móna to provide a reasonable quantity from the Clonsast Bog, which is situated in the area concerned.

I am aware that the fuel position has recently been difficult in Portarlington in common with other parts of the country. The turf produced locally by Bord na Móna is allocated for special purposes, the bulk of the production being required for the Dublin free fuel scheme. It is not possible to make any quantity available for local domestic use. Other steps have, however, been taken to relieve the present shortage of turf in the town.
