Vol. 104 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Firewood in Castlebla.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a large quantity of firewood, the residue of commercial timber sold to Messrs. Barry and Company, Fermoy, is lying in the State forest at Castlebla and Gurteen, Ballyhooly, County Cork; that this firewood is piled in lots, available for speedy disposal and removal; that local people, most of whom are unable to obtain fuel, have made frequent applications to the local forestry management to sell this firewood to them but without result; and whether, in view of the hardship endured by these people, and of the fact that firewood is decaying in this State forest, he will take steps to make this timber available, at a reasonable price, for the benefit of the public.

The firewood lots in Castlebla wood were on offer since early December and they have been completely sold. There is some heavier firewood material on offer at Gurteen wood.
