Vol. 104 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income-Tax Allowance.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the present high cost of living, which most seriously affects those with small fixed incomes and those in the lower salary and wage groups, he will consider affording them some relief by increasing the personal allowances under the income-tax code.

Any change in the personal allowances under the income-tax code would, of course, call for Finance Bill legislation. All relevant matters will be considered in connection with the Bill, but the Deputy will understand that I cannot indicate at this stage what provisions it may or may not contain.
