Vol. 104 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase of Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in order to assist them to meet the increasing cost of living, he will grant an immediate increase in pensions to all persons who have retired from the State service on pensions calculated at pre-war rates.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has yet considered the desirability of granting increased pensions to retired postal officials; and if so, with what result.

I propose to answer questions Nos. 12 and 13 together. The answer to both questions is in the negative.

Is the Minister aware that teachers, postment and other State servants who have retired are now suffering considerable hardship owing to the inadequacy of their pensions and will he do something to see that their hardships are somewhat eased?
