Vol. 104 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Statistics.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state, for the last period of 12 months for which the figures are available: (a) the percentage of cattle in this country which are of shorthorn breeds; (b) the percentage of all the cattle exported which were of that breed; (c) the approximate value of such export trade; and (d) the approximate value of all other breeds of cattle exported during that period.

I regret that there are no figures available from which the particulars asked for could be computed. The only records showing classification by breeds are those relative to licensed bulls. The number of shorthorn bulls in respect of which licences were granted in the year 1945 was 8,495, representing 88 per cent. of all bulls licensed in that year.
