Vol. 104 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Board.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the amount of money collected to date, by the Milk Board, from the levy on milk since the inception of that levy; how this money is disposed of; and whether he will consider using it to subsidise milk production with a view to providing a more remunerative return for the producer without increasing the cost to the consumer.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the name of the chairman of the Milk Board; the amount of his remuneration, if any; and further, the total cost of the administration of the Milk Board in each year since its establishment.

I propose to take questions Nos. 37 and 38 together. Presumably the Deputy refers to the Dublin District Milk Board. The chairman is Mr. Martin J. Mulally, whose remuneration is £839 per annum. The accounts of the board are published annually and copies are available at the board's offices on payment of a small fee. The board had a reserve fund of approximately £26,000 on 31st December, 1945, but neither I nor the board have power to use this fund for the purpose suggested.
