Vol. 104 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance Reciprocity.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state what progress, if any, has been made towards concluding reciprocal arrangements with Great Britain for the payment of unemployment insurance benefits to civilian workers, employed in Great Britain during the period of the war, who have British insurance stamps to their credit and are now residing in Éire or are contemplating returning to their homes in Éire.

The British National Insurance Act, 1946, enables reciprocal arrangements to be made. The provisions of that Act in relation to unemployment insurance are not expected to become operative until 1948. It has been agreed that discussions with the British authorities in the matter of reciprocal arrangements for unemployment insurance covering civilian workers will be undertaken and these discussions will be started as soon as practicable.
