Vol. 104 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Anti-Partition Campaign in England.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he is aware of the anti-partition drive at present on foot in England; if he has any connection with these activities; and if not, if he will consider the advisability of the Government sponsoring activities of this kind so that the approach to the problem may be made on proper lines.

I am aware that an organisation has been formed in Britain to bring the facts of the partition of this country to the attention of the British people. I naturally sympathise with efforts in this direction, but the Government as such must address its representations directly to the British Government. Apart from any question of propriety, however, I do not think that Government sponsored activities would be as effective as independent and spontaneous ones.

Was not your chief organiser at one of the meetings and was he not run out of it? Was not Mr. Mullins shouted down at one of these meetings?

He is not an officer of the Government.

But he is an officer of the Fianna Fáil organisation.

That is a different matter, is it not?

He got a very warm reception when he went over, anyway.
