Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Leitrim Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state (i) when work will be put in hands on: (a) the construction of the new hospital at Manorhamilton, County Leitrim; and (b) the reconstruction of the Mohill District Hospital, County Leitrim; (ii) the number of beds proposed for each of these hospitals; and (iii) whether X-ray apparatus will be made available in both, or in only one of these hospitals.

(i) (a) The diagrammatic sketch plans for Manorhamilton Hospital have been received in and approved by my Department and the further planning of the hospital is being pressed forward. The county council has been requested to submit revised staffing proposals immediately. When these staffing proposals have been submitted and approved by my Department the council's architects and consulting engineer may proceed with the preparation of developed sketch plans.

(b) It is not proposed to undertake the reconstruction of Mohill District Hospital until the new Manorhamilton Hospital has been completed.

(ii) It is proposed that the new Manorhamilton Hospital should have 61 beds made up as follows:—

Male medical

13 beds.

Female medical

13,,

Male surgical

12,,

Female surgical

10,,

Maternity

7,,

Children

6,,

Total

61,,

It is contemplated that when the Mohill District Hospital is extended to serve the population of South Leitrim it will have 50 beds.

(iii) There will be an X-ray apparatus in both Manorhamilton and Mohill Hospitals.
