Vol. 104 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Supply to Cities and Towns.

asked the Minister for Agriculture of he is aware that a very serious position is arising in the matter of the milk supply to our cities and provincial towns owing (i) to the very low price of delivered milk, and (ii) to the reluctance of milkers to milk cows on Sunday, no matter what remuneration is offered to them; that, for these reasons, many milk suppliers are giving up cows and going out of business and thus the danger of a milk famine is daily becoming more imminent; and if he has any policy to avert such a serious threat to the existence of so important a food supply.

I do not accept the Deputy's contention that a very serious position is arising in the matter of the milk supply to cities and provincial towns. Accordingly the final part of the Deputy's question does not arise.
