Vol. 104 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pre-Truce I.R.A. Medals.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that a large number of men with service in the pre-Truce I.R.A., now resident overseas, were, by reason of their remoteness from this country, unaware of the final date for receipt of applications for medals, benefits, etc., under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1946; if he will state if any representations have been made to his Department in regard to such men; and if he will indicate if it is his intention to have the closing date for such applications extended so as to enable such men to avail themselves of the provisions of the Act.

I am not aware that a large number of men with service in the Pre-Truce I.R.A., now resident overseas, were unaware of the final date for the receipt of applications for service medals. Representations have been made to me in regard to a number of such persons, but as this would require new legislation I do not propose to extend the time limit for application.
