Vol. 104 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Embankments.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that no repairs have yet been carried out on the embankments along the Feale River, in the Innismore and Listowel areas, or to the embankments along the Maine River; whether, in view of the fact that the tenants in these areas are now being compelled to till their lands, and that, unless the repairs are carried out, their crops will be ruined by flooding, he will have the necessary works put in hands and pressed to completion without delay.

In general, the Land Commission have no liability for the maintenance of these embankments, but during recent months they sanctioned considerable expenditure to effect repairs to embankments along the River Feale, in the Innismore and Listowel areas, and to certain minor embankments along the River Maine. These works will be completed as rapidly as circumstances permit.

Examination of the position concerning the extensive River Maine estuary embankments is still proceeding.
