Vol. 104 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Monasterevan Bog Roads.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the output of turf last season from Cloneygath Bog, Drogheda Estate, Monasterevan, which was over 2,000 tons, was restricted by the condition of the approach road and lack of development of the bog; and if, in order to permit of increased output, he will have the necessary road and drainage development works undertaken immediately.

Representations were made in October, 1944, for a grant to carry out development works on the bog referred to. An inspection was made in April, 1945, when it appeared that the estimated cost of the necessary works was disproportionate to the amount of turf then being produced, stated to be about 600 tons, and the matter was not pursued. I shall have another inspection made, and if the quantity of turf to be produced is in the region of 2,000 tons, as stated by the Deputy, further consideration will be given to the proposal.
