Vol. 105 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soldier's Pension Claim.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the reasons why a pension was not granted to ex-Private Joseph Nolan (A/53778) although he served for 22 years in the Army and was discharged as medically unfit in 1945.

Ex-Private Nolan's military service was comprised of (a) service in the Army and (b) service in the Reserve, which is non-pensionable.

Ex-Private Nolan was not granted a service pension because the number of years of his service in the Army was not sufficient to enable him to qualify for the grant of such a pension.

He applied for a disability pension, but no grant could be made to him because it had not been established that his disability was attributable to service in the emergency period.

Will the Minister say how many years' service this man had in the Army?

Eleven years and 87 days.

And now after that service he has been discharged as medically unfit, although he was all right when admitted to the Army?
