Vol. 105 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grant of Import Rights.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether an exclusive right to import any category of Czecho-Slovakian products has been granted to an individual firm or group in Ireland.

No exclusive right to import any category of Czecho-Slovakian products has been granted to any individual firm or group in Ireland.

Has any application for currency or other trade facilities to import commodities from Czecho-Slovakia been refused to any firm?

The Deputy had better give notice of that question.

That would be a matter for the Minister for Finance.

May I inquire of the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has received and granted applications for extensive facilities to the Czecho-Slovak and Irish Trading Company, Limited, to import merchandise from Czecho-Slovakia and will he undertake to give the same facilities as may be at his disposal to any other company which makes application for them?

I do not think that question needs to be answered.

I have told the Deputy that no exclusive right has been given to any one firm or person importing these goods into this country. That means that the same facilities are available to all applicants.
