Vol. 105 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Staffing of Land Registry.

asked the Minister for Justice if, notwithstanding the increased revenue now being derived from the Land Registry, that Department is still under-staffed, with the result that there is unreasonable delay in completion of registrations and issue of documents; and if so, if he will take steps to expedite the work of this office.

There are at present a number of vacancies on the authorised establishment of the Land Registry and there are certain difficulties in the way of filling these vacancies at once. Every effort is being made to overcome these difficulties. In the meantime considerable overtime has been worked and will continue to be worked for so long as may be necessary. Increases have recently been authorised in the staff employed in the registry and when the necessary personnel have been secured, we may hope for a substantial improvement as regards the work of the registry.
