Vol. 105 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Migration Statistics.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state: (i) the number of tenants migrated to counties outside Mayo since 1932; (ii) the average acreage given to allottees; (iii) the areas from which such migrants have come, and (iv) if the lands vacated by them have been rearranged among the remaining tenants.

The following are the answers to the various parts of the question:—

(i) One hundred and eighty four landholders have been migrated by the Land Commission from County Mayo to other counties since 1st April, 1932. (ii) The average area of the new holdings given to such migrants is 32 acres. (iii) The total area vacated by such migrants is 8,489 acres. (iv) A considerable portion of the vacated lands has been distributed for the relief of congestion. The remainder is at present let wherever possible to deserving landholders in the various districts and will be finally allocated as soon as circumstances permit.
