Vol. 105 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Felling of Trees.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total number of trees, the property of the State, which were felled during the emergency and up to date; and the ratio of such felling to the total number of fully matured trees on State forests and woodlands.

Activity in State forests is recorded on the basis of financial years. Trees felled in the State forests during the period from 1st April, 1939, to 31st March, 1946, numbered 881,474 representing approximately 67 per cent. of the stock of mature timber growing in the forests.
