Vol. 105 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Untenanted Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that approximately 80 acres of land, formerly the property of Messrs. Brennan King and Cannon, in the townlands of Cloon-shunnagh, Mountdaisy and Cloonforth, are untenanted; and if he will take steps to have this land divided among the small landholders of this locality.

These are migrants' old holdings on the hands of the Land Commission and their final allocation is deferred until circumstances permit the preparation of a rearrangement scheme for neighbouring rundale holdings. It is hoped to secure additional land by further transfers. Meanwhile several small-holders in the district enjoy the use of the lands under lettings from the Land Commission.

Can the Minister give any definite date by which it will be possible to migrate further tenants?

It is not easy to give a definite date as building materials are not available for the erection of new houses.

The matter is always under consideration, I suppose.
