Vol. 105 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Rural Community's Inconveniences.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that serious inconvenience is occasioned to the rural community in the Kanturk and Newmarket, County Cork, districts by the fact that no distributing and receiving depôt for the accommodation of their goods is available in those towns since the closing down of the Córas Iompair Éireann goods stores; and if so, if he will direct Córas Iompair Éireann to reopen these goods stores to serve as depôts, as the present service by lorry, without such depôts, is unsatisfactory and expensive.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that they are providing a door-to-door road service for goods in the Newmarket and Kanturk areas. The goods depôt at Newmarket has not been closed and the depôt at Kanturk has been temporarily reopened for traffic. The question of keeping the Kanturk depôt open is being examined.
