Written Answers. - Road Fund.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, in respect of the Road Fund, the income and expenditure for each year from 1937-38 to 1946-47, inclusive; the borrowings, in each year, for the purpose of the fund; and the amount outstanding, on foot of borrowing, at 31st March, 1947.

The Road Fund receipts and payments for the three years preceding the 31st March, 1947, are shown in the table printed below. The figures for the year ended 31st March, 1947, are subject to audit.

Corresponding figures for earlier years appear in this Department's annual reports.

No moneys were borrowed from the Road Fund during the period 1937-38 to 1946-47. The final repayment from the Road Fund to the Exchequer on foot of previous borrowings was made by the 1st March, 1944. There were no moneys outstanding on 31st March, 1947, on foot of borrowings.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, in respect of each of the years ended 31st March, 1946 and 1947, the amount of the allocation made to the several local authorities in respect of (a) road maintenance, and (b) road improvements; and the payments made from the Road Fund, in respect of such grants, to such local authorities.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the total payments made from the Road Fund in each of the last ten years for which the figures are available; and indicate the headings under which the various charges are made on income of the fund.

The particulars required for the years 1937-38 to 1943-44 are available in this Department's Annual Reports. Particulars of the payments made from the Road Fund during the three years preceding 31st March, 1947, are given in a reply to Deputy Tadhg Ó Murchadha in the Official Report of to-day's proceedings.
