Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Imports.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the quantities of petrol imported, in each of the years 1944, 1945 and 1946, and in each month in 1947.

The quantities of petrol imported in 1944, 1945 and 1946 were 12,916,233 gallons, 14,925,935 gallons and 35,086,347 gallons respectively. In the months of January, February and March of this year, the following quantities of petrol were imported:—3,009,925 gallons, 4,409,904 gallons and 1,777,205 gallons, respectively. Firm figures for April are not yet available, but it is estimated that the imports of petrol amounted to about 2,800,000 gallons.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the average c.i.f. price of the petrol imported in 1946.

Statistics of imports of all descriptions of petrol are brought to account under the heading of "Motor Spirit", particulars of the gallonage and c.i.f. value of which, for the year 1946, are published on page 13 of the December, 1946, issue of Trade Statistics.
