Vol. 105 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Land Security Tenants' Association.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a considerable amount of dissatisfaction and misunderstanding with the Land Commission appears to exist on the part of a large number of tenants on the Bradshaw, Denny, Kennedy, McCrae-Blakeney and other estates in the neighbourhood of Cahir, County Tipperary; and whether, with a view to eliminating such misunderstandings and seeing to what extent the sources of dissatisfaction can be removed, he will make arrangements that a representative of the Land Commission will meet the representatives of the local Land Security Tenants' Association, for the discussion of these matters, at an early date.

The Land Commission have received communications from the Clerihan Land Security Tenants' Association about the McCraith Blakeney estate and other estates in Tipperary and a reply was duly issued to the secretary of that association. The correspondence related to delays in vesting allotments and questions of fencing and water facilities. I have already fully explained the position as regards these matters in reply to the Deputy's questions on 25th March, last.

If the association will indicate in detail the matters upon which they now desire a discussion the Land Commission will consider the matter.

Does the Minister realise that there are a certain number of misunderstandings and some dissatisfaction there? I think he will find, if the matter were discussed locally by an inspector, that the atmosphere would be cleared, at any rate, and a considerable amount of misunderstanding could be removed. I suggest to the Minister that there are matters that could very usefully be discussed locally.

I think that if a discussion were to take place it would be well if the tenants could indicate what the difficulties were so that whoever would attend at the discussion would be fully informed in the matter.
