Vol. 105 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Condition of Sign-Posts.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that many sign-posts on the roads to the South of Ireland have become damaged and twisted, with consequent great inconvenience to travellers; and if he will, accordingly, direct the appropriate road authorities that these sign-posts at road junctions be properly re-erected without delay.

In September, 1944, local authorities were asked to take steps to replace direction signs and to ensure that each arm was clearly visible to persons on the road proceeding to the places indicated.

It is understood that many of these signs cannot be repaired readily. Replacement of worn or damaged signs presents difficulty owing to the shortage of materials. As soon as material becomes available it is intended to have new signs erected where necessary.
