Vol. 106 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Haulbowline Pier.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will now state what steps he is taking to ensure the rebuilding of the pier, at present leased to Cork Harbour Oil Wharfs, Limited, at Haulbowline; if he is aware that the present condition of the pier prevents the discharge of petrol, fuel oil, etc., there by ocean-going tankers which, coupled with the lack of transport, gives rise to acute shortages of petroleum products in Cork City and County; and if, in view of the seriousness of this matter, he will direct that the work of rebuilding the pier be pressed to early completion.

Proposals for the reconstruction of the jetty at the Cork Harbour Oil Wharfs Company's premises at Haulbowline are at present under discussion with the company.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the delay in attending to this work is the cause of the shortage in petrol, kerosene and oil in Cork County?

I am not so aware.

These are the facts. The oil tankers cannot come in owing to the condition of the pier. Surely this is a matter that should be speeded up?

The matter is being speeded up as much as possible.
