Vol. 106 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issuing of Sailing Tickets.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that passengers holding sailing tickets for the outgoing boats at Dún Laoghaire pier, are obliged to stand in queues for long periods; and if he will take steps to ensure that passengers holding such tickets will be permitted to enter on the pier immediately on arrival there.

As the majority of passengers are carried direct on to the pier by the boat trains, and as the pier is opened for admission of travellers one and a half hours before the scheduled time of sailing, the need for queues for admission to the pier rarely, if ever, arises.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary not aware that numbers of people travelling by the boat stay in Dún Laoghaire the night before and do not arrive by the boat train? Is he not also aware that these people are compelled to queue up with persons who have no sailing tickets with the result that they are kept there for hours waiting for entry? Will he not see that something is done to enable these people to enter the pier directly?

Ninety per cent. of the passengers arrive by boat train and 10 per cent. arrive from the Dún Laoghaire side. As the premises are open for an hour and a half before the departure of the boat, I think there is no ground for complaint.
