Vol. 107 No. 2

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of applications received by his Department for grants for the improvement of harbours; how many of those applications have been refused and how many granted; and if he will give a list of the harbours to which grants have been made, and the amount granted in each case.

Applications for grants for improvement works have been received in my Department from 21 harbour authorities. Nine applications have been granted, nine are under examination and consideration of three applications have been deferred.

The following grants from public funds have been approved subject to certain conditions:—

The total cost of the rebuilding of part of the quay wall at Westport will be met from public funds. The cost will probably amount to between £15,000 and £18,000.

A grant of £500,000, or two-thirds of the total cost, whichever is the lesser, has also been approved for the proposed graving dock at Dublin.
