Vol. 107 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Cork Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that considerable inconvenience is caused by the absence of public telephone facilities in Lower Glanmire Road, Cork; if he will state whether immediate steps will be taken to provide suitable facilities; if not, if he will state at what places in Cork it is proposed to provide such facilities in the immediate future; and why Lower Glanmire Road has been omitted from these plans.

Public telephone facilities are available in Lower Glanmire Road at the telephone call office in the Lower Glanmire Road Sub-Post Office and at the telephone kiosk at the Summerhill end of the road. There is also a telephone kiosk at St. Luke's nearby.

In Cork, as elsewhere, telephone kiosks are provided on a priority basis, and the programme is arranged in consultation with the Cork Corporation. It has already been decided to provide kiosks at Dillon's Cross, Douglas, Blackrock, Blackpool, Mayfield, Phair's Cross and Patrick Street.

When these have been provided consideration will be given to other sites and it is hoped that it will be possible to include a further kiosk for the Lower Glanmire Road area.

How long has St. Luke's been near Glanmire? It is more than a mile away.

It is the best we can do at the present time.
