Vol. 108 No. 1

Written Answers. - Home Consumption of Agricultural Products.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the estimated consumption per head of the population of (a) milk, (b) creamery butter, (c) farmers' butter, (d) factory butter, (e) cream, (f) cheese, (g) eggs, (h) potatoes and (i) bacon in each of the years 1925, 1932, 1938, 1941, 1945 and 1946 respectively.

Information is not available on which to base estimates in respect of the years 1925 and 1932. A tabular statement is attached showing estimated consumption per head per annum of the commodities specified (with the exception of cream) in the years 1926, 1929, 1934, 1938, 1941, 1945 and 1946. It must be emphasised that these figures are estimates and as such subject to error. The question of the improvement of the accuracy of the figures is at present under examination in the statistics branch of my Department. Estimates of consumption of cream are not available.
