Vol. 108 No. 1

Written Answers. - Gaeltacht Tomato and Poultry-Houses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the number of tomato and poultry-houses allocated to the different Gaeltacht counties, and the particular areas in each county chosen for their erection.

It is presumed the Deputy has in mind the glass-house and poultry-house schemes in Gaeltacht areas which were foreshadowed by the Minister for Finance in his Budget Statement on 7th May.

The glass-house scheme provides for the establishment of two units, each consisting of 100 growers' glass-houses, a central plant propagating house and a central packing station, situated within as restricted an area as possible, so that working expenses may be minimised. One unit is being located in the Knock-Carraroe area of Connemara and the other in the Gortahork area of County Donegal.

Details of the special poultry-house scheme are being worked out and it is hoped to have it put in operation shortly.
