Vol. 108 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkee Water Rent Collectorship.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state why the vacancy for water rent collector at Kilkee, County Clare, is not being filled permanently; if he is aware that the duties of the post are being discharged by a pensioned officer of the Clare County Board of Health; further, that there are a number of young men, who had over six years' service in the Army during the emergency, unemployed in the town, and qualified to fill this position; and if he will take steps to have his position filled.

I am aware that a vacancy occurred in the office of collector of water rents in Kilkee, that the county manager acting within his own discretion appointed an officer of the Clare County Council to carry out the duties temporarily and that the officer so appointed has since retired from his permanent post. The office is a minor office the filling of which rests with the county manager. I am making inquiries as to the permanent arrangements for carrying out the duties which the manager has in contemplation and when I have fuller information I shall communicate with the Deputy.
