Vol. 108 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transition Development Fund Allocations.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the general purpose for which (a) allocations, and (b) payments were made out of the Transition Development Fund during the period 1st April, 1947, to 31st August, 1947; and the total amount already allocated and paid out.

In general, allocations from the Transition Development Fund during the period 1st April, 1947, to the 31st August, 1947, were for the purpose of housing, farm improvements and water and sewerage schemes; there were also minor allocations for scientific research and fishery premises. Payments out of the fund during the same period were confined to housing grants. The total amount already allocated is approximately £1,500,000 to which a substantial allocation for rural electrification may fall to be added. The total payments out of the fund up to the present amount to £271,270.

How much of the £1,500,000 was allocated to housing and how much to the other sub-heads the Minister spoke of?

About £1,200,000 to housing.

And how much to the rest?
