Vol. 108 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Exchange Clerks' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will take steps to secure the necessary modification of the pension regulations, as applied to clerks in employment exchanges, so as to authorise the payment of pensions on retirement to officers who were established, as a result of the confined examination held in 1938, provided they were not more than 50 years of age at the date on which they originally entered this service in a temporary capacity; and if so, when it is proposed to introduce proposals for this purpose.

No modification of the pensions code is necessary in the case of officers who were established as a result of the examination referred to in the Deputy's question, as, subject to the provisions of the Superannuation Acts, they are eligible for pensions on retirement. It is not proposed, as regards officers who were not granted establishment, that is, pensionable status, on ground of age at the date of appointment from the examination, to depart from the normal practice of retention in an unestablished capacity. The position of such officers was made clear in the conditions of service issued in connection with the examination.
