Vol. 108 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ex-Postmen's Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount paid in pensions to ex-postmen; the average amount paid per week to such pensioners; and whether any increase or bonus has been paid, in respect of these pensions, in the last eight years, to enable pensioners to meet the increased cost of living.

The total annual amount of pensions payable to ex-postmen is £38,778; the average weekly pension of such pensioners is £1 9s. 9d. No general increase in pensions for the purpose of meeting the increased cost of living has been granted in the past eight years, but Civil Service pensioners who retired during the period when their salaries were stabilised will, of course, benefit under the provisions of the Superannuation Bill, 1947.
