Vol. 108 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increased University Fees.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether, when recently increasing the State endowments of the Colleges of the National University, he imposed on these colleges the obligation to increase students' fees; and further, whether he will state the percentage increase required by him in respect of the different colleges.

The increase in students' fees was not imposed as a condition to the recent increase in the State endowments of the Colleges of the National University. The increases in endowments by the State were not, however, sufficient to meet the whole cost of the proposed increases in salaries and other expenses and the decision to increase students' fees was taken by the college authorities as a contribution towards the solution of their financial problems.
