Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Criminal Court Sentences.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of persons now undergoing terms of imprisonment in consequence of sentences imposed by the Special Criminal Court; the nature of the offences in respect of which each such person was convicted; and the place of his detention.

The number is 14. Twelve are serving their sentences in Portlaoighise Prison and two in Mountjoy Prison. The classification of offences, followed in each case by the number of persons convicted, is as follows:—

Murder

Attempted murder, possession of firearms, etc.

Wounding with intent to murder

Manslaughter

Shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm, etc.

Robbery with aggravation, shooting with intent, unlawful wounding, etc.

Robbery with aggravation, control of firearms with intent

Causing an explosion

2

Riotous damage, assault, etc.
