Vol. 108 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grinding of Limestone.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that large quantities of lime stone, suitable for producing lime for agricultural purposes, are available at Kerlogue, County Wexford; that there is a shortage of lime for agricultural purposes throughout County Wexford, and that there is little likelihood of the necessary quantities being produced by the owners of lime stone deposits; and whether in those circumstances, he will take steps to procure the establishment of a factory for the purpose of grinding the stone and making it available to the farming community.

I am aware that lime stone is available at Kerlogue, County Wexford, but I am informed that as it is expensive to work and of low calcium carbonate content it is not suitable for the production of lime for agricultural purposes.
