asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total quantity of coal which it is proposed to make available for domestic use during 1947; the average price at which it will be sold to consumers; and, if a subsidy is provided in respect of such coal, the amount of the subsidy.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Domestic Coal Ration.
Coal has been included in the domestic ration as from 1st October, 1947. The quantity required to meet the full household coupon commitment during the October-November ration period would be about 60,000 tons. I am not at present in a position to state the quantity, if any, which can be provided for the rest of this year.
The maximum retail price of coal for household use is 140/- per ton and while definite costing figures are not yet available, it is likely that the maintenance of this price throughout the nonturf area will involve a subsidy of between 30/- and 40/- per ton.
