Vol. 108 No. 3

Written Answers. - Population of Dáil Constituencies.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the population of each of the proposed Dáil constituencies, set out in the First Schedule to the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1947, as disclosed by the 1946 census of population.

The following are unrevised population figures for the constituencies indicated in the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1947. They have been compiled from information supplied by the Department of Industry and Commerce (Statistics Branch) and mainly contained in the Preliminary Report on the 1946 Census of Population. They are not to be taken as final figures; this applies particularly in the case of the Dublin constituencies.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, in respect of each of the proposed new Dáil constituencies enumerated in the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1947: (a) the total population; (b) the total number of electors in each such constituency; and if he will state further the number of persons per Deputy residing in each such proposed new constituency.

Particulars of the number of electors in each of the proposed constituencies are not yet available. When they are, the information will be circulated to Deputies.

As regards the other information requested by the Deputy unrevised population figures for the proposed constituencies are given in to-day's reply to a question put by Deputy Byrne. The following table shows the number of members per constituency and the population per member for each constituency. The figures shown in the last column should be taken subject to the qualification mentioned in the reply to Deputy Byrne.
