Vol. 108 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Regulation of Inland Fisheries.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state when the promised legislation regulating inland fisheries is likely to be introduced.

As I explained when introducing the Fisheries Estimates for the current financial year, my Department, in consultation with the Parliamentary draftsman, has been preparing a consolidation measure to bring within the compass of one Act all the fisheries statutes enacted from 1842 onwards. These statutes number more than 30 and deal with sea fisheries as well as inland fisheries. I cannot at this stage name a probable date for the introduction of a consolidation measure and an amending Bill which will be necessary to clear up some outstanding matters in relation to fisheries.
