Vol. 108 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies for Canteens.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a number of industrial and commercial concerns in Dublin are desirous of providing catering services for their employees on canteen lines; and whether, in view of the difficulty workers experience in getting meals in regular restaurants within the short time they have available for the mid-day and evening meals, and of the high prices charged for those meals, he will be prepared to make available supplies of rationed goods for use in canteens where such are established by industrial and commercial establishments.

Canteens operated by industrial, commercial and other concerns have been allocated quotas of rationed foodstuffs where it has been shown that the canteens were in operation before the introduction of rationing. The possibility of allocating limited quotas of rationed goods for new works canteens, subject to certain conditions, has been under consideration for some time past and I hope to be able to make a decision in the matter soon.
