Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seanad Elections.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is proposed to introduce legislation, during the present Dáil session, to alter the method of election of members to Seanad Éireann; and if he will state whether the Government have accepted the report of the Joint Committee, set up by the Oireachtas, to consider the procedure at such elections.

The Government have directed that legislative proposals be prepared to give effect to the report of the Joint Committee set up by the Oireachtas to consider the procedure at elections of panel members to Seanad Eireann. The drafting of the Bill is not yet complete but it is intended to move for leave to introduce the Bill during the present session.
