Vol. 108 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Communications on Partition.

Mr. Corish

asked the Taoiseach whether written representations, on the subject of Partition, were made by him to the present British Government subsequent to August, 1945; if so, whether he will place a copy of his communication in the Library; further, if a written communication on the subject has been received by him from the British Government, subsequent to August, 1945; and if so, whether he will place a copy of the communication in the Library.

As I pointed out in reply to Deputy Norton on the 15th October, I do not believe that any more formal representations to the British Government, in regard to Partition, than those I have made would have been helpful. I am satisfied that the British Government know the position. The matter has been mentioned in writing in the course of certain communications between ourselves and the British Government in the period referred to by the Deputy, but I am not prepared, at present, to place copies of the communications in the Library.

Mr. Corish

Would the Taoiseach say if he has made written representations on the subject of Partition to the present British Government subsequent to August, 1945?

I have answered that question.

Mr. Corish

Does the Taoiseach, then, assume that the present British Government have the same attitude to Partition as the Tory Government had in the past?

By the fruits, we shall know.

Mr. Corish

If the Taoiseach does not try, he will never find out.

The Taoiseach has tried; you may be sure of that.

Where is the 1932 Plan now?
