Vol. 108 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cable Laying—Conditions of Employment.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he has laid down certain conditions under which men are employed at the laying of cables by his Department at Enniscorthy; and if so, if he will state what these conditions are.

No special conditions were laid down in regard to the men employed for cable-laying operations at Enniscorthy. The men were recruited for the work through the local employment exchange in accordance with normal practice and they are paid the rate of wages appropriate to casual labourers. Preference is accorded for work of this kind to men who had service in the Army.
