Vol. 108 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Secondary Teachers and Arbitration Scheme.

asked the Minister for Education if it is the intention of the Government to include secondary teachers in the new scheme of arbitration, on the lines of the existing Labour Court, which it contemplates setting up for civil servants and primary teachers.

As far as I am aware it is not intended that the proposed scheme of arbitration for civil servants should apply to either primary teachers or secondary teachers.

Will the Minister say whether he is proposing any kind of scheme of arbitration for primary or secondary teachers?

The position is that discussions in connection with a scheme of arbitration for the Civil Service are proceeding and I have nothing further to add. If the Deputy wishes to pursue the matter he ought to wait at least until we see what the results of the present discussions regarding Civil Service arbitration will be.

Do I understand then that until the discussions are finished with regard to civil servants it is not intended to have any discussions in relation to primary and secondary teachers?

So far as I am concerned, no discussions have so far taken place in the matter. I cannot say what may take place in the future.
