Vol. 108 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turkey Prices in British Market.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the price for Irish produced turkeys to be sold on the British market, during the coming season, has yet been fixed; if so, what the fixed price per lb. is; what price per lb. is to be paid for British produced turkeys in the same market; and if the levy on Irish produced turkeys will be removed.

I would ask the Deputy to repeat the question in a week's time.

In the interval, will the Minister examine the allegation at present circulating in the British Press that, owing to the new basis for points or coupons in England, it will be impossible for any individual family in England to purchase a turkey and that the fowl dealers in England have stated that it will be a matter of more than one family combining to permit of the purchase of a turkey this Christmas?

I have no knowledge of what the Deputy alleges has appeared in the English papers.

I saw a statement on behalf of the wholesale fowl dealers to that effect.

Could the Minister say if the question of the levy has been considered?

I do not like to give a partial answer to that question. All I can say is that it is not my intention to remove the levy.
