Vol. 108 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement of Farm Buildings.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state when it is proposed to introduce proposals for legislation for the construction and improvement of farm buildings, as promised early in this year; and the reasons for the delay in the matter.

My Department has been devoting considerable attention to the preparation of a scheme for the improvement of farm buildings. Because of the complexities of the matter, as well as the pressure of other urgent work in recent months, it has not yet been practicable to complete the preparation of a suitable scheme. I am not at present in a position to say whether legislation will be necessary to implement the scheme when approved.

Is the Minister aware that at one of the conferences held last spring in connection with increased tillage he gave a definite promise, which he repeated in the House afterwards, that assistance would be given for the erection and reconstruction of farm buildings? Is he not now prepared to carry out that promise?

I have said nothing to indicate, I hope, that it is not my intention to come forward with such a scheme.
