Vol. 108 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flax Crop.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the increasing importance of the flax crop, he will consider making grants to flax growers for the construction of catchment dams where these are necessary to prevent pollution of fisheries by the immediate discharge of flax water from retting dams.

The great majority of our flax growers can be depended upon to take the necessary measures to avoid pollution of fisheries. I do not consider that a scheme of grants for the construction of catchment dams is necessary.
