Vol. 108 No. 12

Committee on Finance. - Minerals Company Bill, 1947—Committee and Final Stages.

Sections 1 to 4, inclusive, agreed to.
SECTION 5.

I move:—

In sub-section (2), page 3, in lines 34 and 35, to delete "defray the expenses incurred in carrying out an approved scheme or in" and substitute "meet the expenses of carrying out an approved scheme or of".

This is essentially a drafting amendment. I felt that the wording in that Bill might have a limiting effect. It is proposed that the company will receive an advance up to a maximum limit of £85,000 per year for exploration and development work. The actual rate of expenditure of the company might not correspond with the statutory limit and the idea is that if the money provided for some approved scheme is not actually expended in the financial year, it could be carried forward to the subsequent financial year. This might not be possible without providing for it in the wording.

Sections 5 to 11 and the Title agreed to.
Bill as amended, reported, received for final consideration, and passed.
