Vol. 108 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Turkeys.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that his recent decision to prohibit the export of turkeys to Great Britain under licence as Christmas gifts, has caused great disappointment to Irish citizens and nationals resident in Great Britain; that, as a result of this decision, many Irish homes in Great Britain may be without their traditional Christmas dinner; if he will reconsider the decision, and if not, if he will state the reasons why; and if he will permit the export of other classes of poultry.

I do not propose to alter the decision. In the course of the recent discussions with the British authorities the suggestion was made by them that we abandon the gift arrangement. I agreed to adopt this suggestion.

There is some arrangement between you, after all.
